Homework Policy
Homework is given in weekly every Monday, with it all being due on Friday
o A leveled spelling list
o Math practice-usually solely based on the skills being taught that week (From Mrs. Fessler)
o 30 Minutes reading a book of choice
I understand that students are involved in afterschool activities (sports, church, scouts, chores etc.) which is why the homework is given weekly. The goal is that students, with the help and guidance of parents, will manage their time between school, activities, sleep and family time. You have a week to do your homework, do it when you are able.
· Help set up a consistent organized place from homework to be done.
· Help your child establish either a consistent schedule for completing homework or help him/her create a schedule each Sunday night that reflects that particular weeks activities.
· Encourage and motivate your child, but do not sit with him/her and do the homework with him/her. The purpose of the homework is for your child to practice and use what he/she has learned. If your child is consistently not able to do the homework by himself/herself, please contact me.
· If your child is practicing a skill, ask him/her to tell you which steps are easy for him/her, which are difficult, or how he/she is going to improve. If your child is doing a project, ask him/her what knowledge he/she is applying in the project. If your child is consistently unable to talk about the knowledge he/she is practicing or using, please contact me.
· Although there might be exceptions, the minutes your child should spend on homework each night should equal approximately 10 times his/her grade level (a 4rd grader should spend 40 minutes).
· When bedtime comes, please STOP your child, even if he/she is not done.
